Charles is an Economics and Sociology graduate, an MBA specialising in management competencies, an associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers, and formerly Fellow of the Institute of Data Processing Managers and Member of the British Computer Society.



In 1995 he began training for the Methodist Ministry and became a Minister in 1998, currently serving at Heald Green Methodist Church. He serves as Chaplaincy Co-ordinator and Chaplain for Police Headquarters and is also a voluntary Chaplain at St. Ann’s Hospice.

He has been a school governor and chair of governors in primary and secondary schools. He was involved in Primary School Governing for over 25 years, spending fifteen years as Chair. In that time as Chair he oversaw the amalgamation of the Infant and Junior School and the creation of a new build for the Nursery, Early Years and Key Stage 1 classes. He took the decision to retire from this at the end of the 2010/11 academic year. He joined the Cheadle Hulme High School Governing body in 2000 and became Development Governor. About seven years ago he become Chair of the Governing Body following the appointment of the new Head and was part of the appointment panel for that post. He is committed to the pursuit of excellence within the governing body in its support for the school.

He is committed to developing his skills in school Governance and is National Leader of Governance.
